After decades away from track and field, this 50+ mom picked up her old sport of high jumping in 2013 and now as a three-time USA W55+ national champion, competes on the masters track and field circuit in the U.S. and overseas.
Julia says, "When I hit 50, I decided, if there's anything I've ever dreamed of doing,
a risk I wanted to take, now is the time to do it."
She says everyone worries about looking silly when trying something new,
but, "The masters athlete community has taught me this:
Whether one succeeds or fails is not as important, as simply putting forth the effort."
Competing in this arena has offered Julia a chance to see and hear all kinds of inspiring stories
about embracing age and never giving up and allowed her to act as a role model for those embracing new challenges.
Julia hopes that this adventure sets a good example for her growing children, ages 13 and 15, teaching them that aging is all about attitude. As she introduces others to the idea of reinvention, Julia's goal is to inspire other over-40s to get out there and try something they've always dreamed of doing, because, as she says, once you hit 40, "Now, it gets interesting!"
